Lactovegetarian are those people who do not eat red meat, chicken and fish and only eat vegetables and dairy products. Total vegetarian or vegans are people who only eat vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, legumes and nothing else.

A vegetarian diet could be a very healthy alternative if it is carefully planned and included in a person’s diet regimen. There are several different type of vegetarian foods that are good to eat if you plan on shifting from a regular eater to a self confessed vegetarian.

Eat foods that are rich in protein like whole grains, vegetables, legumes, seeds and nuts. All these products are good sources of essential amino acids that could be a very good source of protein. In fact, you don’t really need to eat red meat in order to get necessary proteins because these products could provide you with that and more.

Soy is also an essential part of any vegetarian diet as this is also a good source of protein and could help in muscle toning and building. It can even serve as your sole protein source which you can drink on a regular basis.

Eat more of dried beans, spinach, dried fruits and brewer’s yeast as a good source of iron which you can only normally get if you eat red meat, liver and egg yolk.

Vegetarians are able to absorb greater amounts of calcium compared to non-vegetarians. That is why it is important for vegetarians to include beans, grains, broccoli, soybean products and more to their diets in order for them to get enough sources for calcium.

Fruits and vegetables that are good sources of Vitamin A and C should be included in your diet like pineapples, oranges, apples, potatoes and more. These could help you maintain a healthier and leaner body.
